Durga Homebound

Kolkata

With Panchami approaching, artisans ferry Durga out of Kumartuli. A truck awaits the goddess in a nearby street off Rabindra Sarani (formerly Chitpur Road). It will ferry the idol to a Durga Puja pandal in the city where the goddess will be the focus of attention of visitors hopping neighbourhood pandals, each pandal decorated and brilliantly lit to set off the goddess in the night.

Riot Kitty: A spell in India might compensate for it :-)

Actually, the festivities that go on for 9 days (or nights) as Navratri is known is celebrated differently in terms of intensity and customs in different parts of India.

Durga Puja celebrations as seen in West Bengal is without parallel elsewhere in India.

Nona: Thank you.
