For all their love of dogs
The gentle folks on St. Roque Road sometimes forget
That to tell a dog not to mess up
Is to make him do just that!

For, a dog that lets you own it
Will be just as happy to let you own its poop!

And for people like me who are scared of dogs this spells doom!
It is as if someone thought the dog could read the sign. :) Thank you for the chuckle.
A very amusing post, Anil. I do love dogs. Not so fond of some of their owners however.
Wouldn't it be nice if someone read the sign! oh dear.
Mridula: Likely.
Lynn: The sign was meant for the dog owner. Wouldn't be surprised if the dog could read it and decided to show the No Poop sign the finger!
Bobbie: Often owners walking dogs tend to be busy on their mobile phones to keep a watch on what their canine is doing.
Lori Ann: The sign on the gate says Clean Your Dog's Mess so whichever dog did this must be a rebel :-)
hah- what a very humorous post!! I love it!! I've always seen signs for 'beware of dogs' etc- but never one which tells the dog owners to clean up the dog's mess! :)
I once saw a dog go and take a wee on a board that said 'Please keep your dogs on leash and let them not make a mess here ' or something like that.
What justice. :)
What is it about dog owners that don't poop scoop? In our neighborhood it seems small dog owners never pick up - as if because it is small, it isn't still poop!
Nice to see your lighter side in action Mr.P
Anjuli: Thank you. There aren't many such signs around in Bombay. This was the first time I saw a board in the city, asking folks to pick up after their dogs.
Many gates had the same board. It's likely some agency mass produced it and distributed it around the neighbourhood in Bandra.
But elsewhere, around the world, the signs are more common.
See this collection of signs asking folks to clean up the 'mess' their dogs leave behind.
Neha Vish: Poetic justice indeed :-)
Nancy: Israel is trying to make dog owners accountable for the presence their dogs leave behind.
Here's an interesting report of how Israel is attempting using DNA to fight dog poop.
FB: Maybe the lighter side has got to do with the onset of winter in Bombay. :-)
good one...:)
Chitz: Thank you :-)
great post - the dog in the picture -2nd one - looks quite friendly. dog poop - ugh - i love dogs but not stepping in their poop or having to step round it on sidewalks - it can get out of control in cities especially.
Val: Thank you. True, it can difficult to walk on the roads if littered so.
I hate when people don't clear up after their dog, and I'm a dog owner. I walk with extra bags to give to other dog walker who "forgot" a bag.
I'm happier when dog owners clean up after their dog...it just makes life better somehow. Some people in the US post those signs to deter burglars. I don't know if that works, but I heard a story about a little widow who put some really large work boots on her front porch and a very large shirt on a peg. That did work as a deterrent...so a police officer we know told us. She was a smart lady we thought.
Very nice post to a 5 months old puppy owner..
Hi Anil. I love the sign(s), and the notion that a dog 'lets you own it'.. i do believe cats are very much like that, too! Luckily for me, I can walk the dogs on a farm where they can do what they like and not inconvenience anybody and our garden has less "landmines" in it!
Great post on all the watchful lions earlier, too.
LOL! Yes, we own the dog and his poop. Gotta clean up after them, no matter where we are. ;-)
Paz
Sarah Laurence: It must be quite an effort to actually clean up after the dog when out on a walk. But I suppose it is necessary at times especially if living in populated areas.
Amber Star: Yes, it sure does. More so on busy roads. Last thing one wants is to step on poop when about town.
The widow was smart for sure. I do hope we lived in times where she did not have to take recourse to securing herself that way. It says a lot for safety.
Turquoise Diaries: Thank you.
Karen: It must be a big relief to be able to have a farm to let the dogs run free. The dogs must love to be able to run free on the farm.
Paz: The reality of having a dog as a pet :-)
If Martians looked at us from above, they would surely think the dog is the human's master, given who picks up whose poop!
How about a sign that says Beware Of Dog Owner?
Ahh how does on reinforce rules...there are so many signs and posts now sometimes we don't read or follow them anymore.
Dog poo seems a smelly problem every where except in my housing area. Owners actually carry plastic bags, newspapers and dog poo scoops to clean up after the mess when we walk our dogs. We know dogs can't read but we can!
:)
Dog owners and dog haters love to bark and mark territories .
Some places are just not safe here in the states. It is a sad thing, but it is true. It makes me furious that I can't go anywhere I want and feel comfortable.
The reason I came by was to tell you WE GOT SNOW today! We really get excited when it snows in Texas.
Nice blogs... liked all of them. keep walking
Interesting.
Bindu: Absolutely. Anf they'd be right too!
TGF Cherry Blossom Street: Dog owners lack the bite to frighten anyone :-) but it might work :-) Always difficult to reinforce rules.
Kestrel: It's indeed a good thing that they do. It can be quite a task to clean up behind the dogs for sure.
Mumbai Paused: Sure, they do :-)
Amber Star: Lack of safety is lack of freedom so to speak. It can get tough. Great to know of the snow in your state. It must transform the scene dramatically. I'm on the road now travelling in North India.
Poornima: Thank you.
Rajesh: Thank you.
Long time no post?
Radha: Thanks for asking. I've been travelling long, often with little or no access to the Internet. Will return in a little over a weeks time.
Happy New Year!
I figured you were taking a long break. Which is good.
We missed your posts!
TGF Cherry Blossom Street: Thank you very much. Wish you a very happy new year too. Just got back, trying to get my bearings back. Have missed communicating too :-)
Something that comes free and is bio degradable. Things could be worse!
It's a shame that dog owners don't teach their dogs to read! ;-)
Happy New Year,
I hope you are fine!
I was worrying to see you not post for so long. Good to hear that it was only internet access. Welcome back!
Venkata Subramanian: True. Except the smell that is! Worse still if one were to step in it when walking!
Merisi: Unless of course the dogs can read and pretend not to understand :-)
I'm fine. Thank you. Wish you a happy new year too.
Sarah Laurence: Thank you for the concern. I'm doing fine. Just got back from traveling. It's good to be back. Thank you.
